Gladis Begs Again...

With convicted murder Harlow Cuadra facing over two life terms in prison, Harlow's mother Glaidis Zaldivar once again tries to collect money for Harlow via MySpace... this time for his appeal:

"DONATIONS TO GET HARLOW AN APPEALS ATTORNEY!!! We are accepting any donation through P.O. BOX 14416 GREENVILLE, SC 29610 please send it to Gladis Zaldivar mother of Harlow Cuadra, send personal checks or money orders to my P.O. Box. Unfortunately there were problems in the past with my sons donations, also going into the wrong hands, basically money was lost, that's why I ask if you would like to donate money for my sons appeals attorney to please send it to my P.O. Box so that it WILL get to the attorney accepted for my sons appeals wars coming up.... Harlow has grown up to be a handsome, respectful, kind and loving man, the envy of many people, but with love and support and your help we can free him, and return his wings that were unfairly taken from him. *Please help us put the RIGHT pieces to this puzzle in its CORRECT place* GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU!"

According to a source, it should be noted that these "problems in the past" where due to the person handling the donations eventually felt that Harlow was guilty, and decided to send the donations back (...so I'm told).

Perhaps it's nothing more than what man about town said in a previous post... "Harlow now has his family doing the con job. Send them a check now, so they could renovate their trailer." ... or perhaps she's once again claiming to be dealing with another set of 'greedy lawyers'.

Who knows... and does anyone even care?

  1. Wow I seen here myspace a long time ago I didn't think she was still using it as a tool for harlow freedom. It's funny she has a p.o. Box instead of listing the adress. Just a thought do u know how many donations she needs for an appeal? Couple thousand or more like close to a hundred thousand? PC do you know? Is it likley his atternoy will work on an appeal process before payment?

  3. roflmao.

I skipped right over that without noticing it, BB.

I wonder who wrote it. Gladis didn't because she doesn't do coherent English.

  4. "problems in the past"

Actually, there were several sites collecting money, if memory serves. Some of them could have been scams.

Didn't a couple or porn stars set up a site for Cuadra?

Are the coffee cups and baseball caps still for sale?

  5. if they don't have an appeals attorney, who filed the "concise statement"?

and even though I'm sure H&J are guilty, I don't mind an appeal...at least then no one can say he didn't get the full benefit of the justice system...but maybe mom would be better off picking a lawyer then asking people to send money to him/her rather than to mom...seems kinda sleazy the way she's doing it...but guess that's a family trait...

  6. The worst thing she could possibly do is say that previous donations fell "into the wrong hands" -- I bet the previous donors are thrilled to hear that. Even if what PC said is true and money was returned, prospective new donors have no way of knowing that. The whole thing smacks of fraud. Sorry Gladis.

  7. Say what?? Let me get my checkbook out and write a check with my invisible ink pen!

While I do feel sorry for his Mother...the success of an appeal is sketchy at best.

Even if they win their appeal, it will just mean a new trial and he'll be convicted again.

It's possible, of course, that he could a lesser sentence in a new trial, but he's not going to walk.

  9. I should have added that a new trial is like starting over. He could also get the sentence he avoided in the first trial.

  10. And while we're talking about money, if he wins a new trial, he'll need even more money to pay for trial attorneys.

Wouldn't it be ironic if he won a new trial on appeal, but couldn't pay for a defense?

  11. I think he would then be afforded public defenders, wouldn't he? I don't see why not.

  12. I think he would then be afforded public defenders

I'm sure he would, Will, but he wasn't satisfied with his previous public defenders... I least I got that impression. ;-)

Actually, he's probably not satisfied with the attorneys he paid. He would have ended up in the same situation if he'd stuck with the public defenders, IMO. The money was spent without a worthwhile result.

  13. he's not going to win a new trial on appeal. Paul Walker his trial attorney filed the appeal.

  16. Paul Walker his trial attorney filed the appeal.

Glad you're paying attention. The attorney of record usually files the appeal. The actual appeal, though, is commonly handled by an attorney who has experience with appeals.

For example, Cuadra's attorneys (public defenders at the time) filed the appeal of PPO's Fannick ruling, but the appeal was handled by another attorney.
